โ€œWhat surprised me about the program was the number of different career paths that are possible in the finance industry. Being exposed to multiple different roles is helping me identify my strengths and what career path I am most interested in.โ€

  • Current academy rotation: Client Services
  • A skill they are developing: Building collaborative relationships through outbound and inbound calls with mutual fund shareholders, 401 (k) plan participants, and Registered Investment Advisors
  • What they would tell a future applicant: The academy provides a great opportunity to learn about all the different stakeholders and moving pieces of an investment management firm
  • A project or responsibility they found meaningful: Outbound calls to shareholders for proxy voting following our acquisition of an ETF
  • Favorite memory (so far): Joining our Internal Sales Associates at a CFA golf event that we sponsored earlier this summer

Marqus Avalos

2025 | Private Wealth Associate at Alliance Bernstein

I valued the opportunity to get licensed and have all of that covered by the firm. I learned the importance of authentic client service. In Investment Operations, I learned the importance of being detail oriented. The academy helped me get real-world experience at a growing firm and helped me decide which route of investment finance to go down.

Kendall Floyd

2025 | Digital Marketing Associate at Shelton

After graduating from college, I felt overwhelmed by the possibilities of what could come next. The Academy provided the structured environment I needed to gain experience, explore potential career paths, and develop a clearer sense of the direction I wanted to pursue. It gave me resources to continue my education beyond the classroom, learn from extremely talented and dedicated mentors, and build the skills I needed to succeed beyond the Academy.

Renee Calvanese

2023 | Operations Administrative Assistant at Shelton

I found Shelton Academy through CU Boulderโ€™s career office, and it turned out to be the perfect way to start my career. Rotating through three different departments gave me hands-on experience and helped me figure out what I enjoyed most. That experience led me to a full-time role with Shelton Capital Management, and Iโ€™m grateful I had the opportunity to explore different paths before finding the right fit.
